ANCHORAGE- The avalanche aftermath continues to keep Valdez off the road system.

With the dangers still too high to begin clearing the avalanches, officials say they are in wait and watch mode.

But the city doesn't seem to be slowing down. Known for having massive amounts of snowfall, Valdez is no stranger to harsh winters.

Now this quaint little town is home to some of the largest avalanches on record.

Four days after the avalanches covered the only road into the city, residents say life is normal.

The DOT continues monitoring the avalanches. In the meantime, the community is more concerned about what the highway will look like once the dam breaks and the snow is cleared.

The DOT says they do not know when work will begin on clearing the dam because of the dangers it could cause workers.

Additional ferry services have been added to run into the city until the highway is reopened.
