In this week's Public Safety Link we explore the Alaska Fugitive Task Force and how agencies working together is a big part in bringing criminals to justice:
ANCHORAGE -- 39-year-old Cherie Flores faces six felony charges in relation to allegedly embezzling nearly 1-million dollars. Flores was arrested this morning by department of homeland security investigators.. at the honolulu international airport.
Federal investigators acted under direction of the Alaska Fugitive Task Force, compiled of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Homeland Security Investigators, Alaska State Troopers, and Anchorage Police Officers.
The task force tracked Flores to the Philippines and received information that Flores boarded a flight from the Philippines bound for Honolulu.
The task force is an important part in connecting the right channels, said Deputy U.S. Marshal of the Alaska District David Long. He says task force representatives are some of the brightest investigators of their respective agencies.
"It just gives us a lot more resources and a broader view of the areas that we're in, along with contacts. It really does help network the task force," said Long.
The Alaska Fugitive Task Force is part of the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force.
