Soldotna, AK --
City officials in a Soldotna are deciding whether to ban the use of cell phones in school zones.
Last year the Alaska legislature gave cities the ability to regulate the use of phones on school property. A state law bans texting and driving but Soldotna's ordinance also prohibits things like searching for music or scrolling through social media. The ordinance is enforceable on roadways but not in school zones. However, if passed this new ordinance will change that. The council will meet on January 23rd to address the issue.
