Anchorage Police Arrest Man After Shots Fired

An armed man was taken into custody after a report of early morning shots fired in midtown Anchorage.

ANCHORAGE- An armed man was taken into custody after a report of early morning shots fired in midtown Anchorage.

Anchorage police say they took a call about gunfire at about 11 p.m. Thursday near 50th Avenue and Laurel Street.
 
Officers determined that an armed man was inside a home with two young children.
Police responded with the department's Special Assignment Unit and SWAT team.
The man was taken into custody early Friday after four and a half hours of negotiation.
Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro says police do not believe the man fired shots at someone. He was not immediately charged.
