ANCHORAGE- Anchorage is getting more taxicabs.
The city sold 15 new permits Tuesday afternoon.
Chief city financial officer Lucinda Mahoney says the sale of the permits brings in $1.07 million.
The permits went to individuals who submitted the highest sealed bids. The winning bids ranged between $40,000 and $91,000.
Procurement manager George Wood says the permits are the first sold by the city since 2009.
Before the sale, the number of permits in the city was 173.
Wood says the city will review the credentials of the winning bidders to ensure they meet minimum qualifications to become a taxi driver.
