VALDEZ- The city of Valdez remains cut off from the Richardson Highway.

30 miles of the highway will continue to be closed from massive avalanches Friday. DOT crews have started clearing some of the debris.

Officials say they had been trying to allieviate some of the avalanches for about 10 days when they happened. It was the heavy rains and warm temperatures that caused the slides.

They do not expect the highway to reopen until at least another week, as much of the highway is still too unsafe for crews to clear.

A dam formed just outside Keystone canyon, causing some flooding in the valley upstream.

Additional ferry service from whittier will be added. The airport remains open.
