Kodiak Teen Drowns in Lake at Fort Abercrombie

Alaska State Troopers say a 14-year-old Kodiak boy has drowned in a lake at Fort Abercrombie.

KODIAK- Alaska State Troopers say a 14-year-old Kodiak boy has drowned in a lake at Fort Abercrombie.
Rex Matautia was swimming with friends about 8 p.m. Tuesday when he began struggling and slipping underwater.
The other boys unsuccessfully tried to save him.
A bystander called 911 after hearing the boys calling for help.
Responders included a rescue team member who spotted Matautia's body about 75 feet from shore.
CPR was performed and the boy was taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.
Emergency room staff tried to resuscitate Matautia for 90 minutes before he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy by the state medical examiner's office will be performed.
