KODIAK- Only one company responded to the state's request to provide an interim ferry while the Tustumena undergoes repairs, but the sole response didn't meet all requirements.

All sailings for the state ferry Tustumena have been canceled until July 23.

The state sought bids from companies with a Coast Guard-licensed ship that could carry three cars and six passengers between Homer and Kodiak or Kodiak and rural communities.

The only bid came from Anchorage-based Bering Marine Corp. The company's Arctic Seal could carry three cars but no passengers.
