KODIAK- A small airplane made an emergency landing in the ocean near a state park in Kodiak but two men on board swam to safety.

A 1947 Aeronca Chief piloted by its owner, 26-year-old Tyler Polum of Kodiak, experienced engine problems Saturday afternoon.

Polum landed in the water near Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park.

Polum sustained injuries to his head and wrists but declined medical treatment.

A passenger, 44-year-old Jason Brooks of Palmer, was not injured.

Alaska State Troopers say Polum landed about 50 feet from shore.
