Alaska is getting $3 million in federal stimulus money to pay for improvements to the Hoonah Ferry Terminal.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the funding
Tuesday.

Hoonah is located on the northern coast of Chichagof Island and is semi-isolated from the Inside Passage - the main maritime highway for transportation through southeast Alaska.

Sen. Mark Begich says the ferry system is a key part of Alaska's
transportation network, and the upgrade will help keep it running
efficiently.
