Eight rafters and a guide were treated for hypothermia after the raft they were in flipped on the Mendenhall River.

The raft, which was operated by a local tour company, overturned
Monday night. The river was swollen from heavy rains at the time.

Residents who live along the banks of the river helped some of the rafters reach shore.

Firefighters also used a throw rope to retrieve the rest from the water.

Eight were taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital, where most of them were treated and released.
