Juneau Searching For Snow Storage Site

Tools

by Steve Brawn

Juneau needs a new place to store its plowed snow.

The city has been storing it in a tour bus parking lot at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, but a U.S. Forest Service plan to pave the lot threw city officials into a panic this fall.

City Manager Rod Swope ended up getting permission to use the lot this winter, but the city faces a lack of storage space next year.

The city wants to avoid dumping the snow and its pollution into the ocean.
