A science and health teacher in Cordova is recognized for her hard work and dedication to her students.
Cara Heitz is named Alaska Teacher of the Year. She has taught for 10 years, 5 in her current position.
Heitz says she wants her students to feel empowered to think freely as well as encouraged and supported in their learning.
Heitz will receive technology for her school, and will receive a scholarship to pursue an advanced degree.
She has a bachelor's degree in zoology and completed course work toward a medical doctorate at the Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
