JUNEAU- A bear sighting in Juneau's Mendenhall Valley prompted a local elementary school to cancel recess.

The brown bear was spotted Thursday morning.
State Fish and Game biologist Stephanie Sell says the bear was seen in the vicinity of the Alaska Club on Riverside Drive and then around Thunder Mountain High School.
Sell says she spoke with principals at Thunder Mountain and Riverbend Elementary School to notify them of the bear.
She says Riverbend decided to cancel its morning recess. The school has no enclosed playground.
