JUNEAU- The Juneau port director says the cancellation of visits to Juneau by a Celebrity Cruises ship will cost the municipality significant dollars.
Mechanical problems on the 965-foot Millennium forced the cruise company to cancel Alaska sailings that included five trips to Juneau.
Port director Carl Uchytil says that he estimates the financial impact at $2 million.
Uchytil came up with the $2 million figure by calculating spending by passengers and crew.
He estimates the city will lose $80,000 in sales tax revenue and $15,000 in wharf fees.
