Chugach National Forrest is joining seven other national forests in implementing a new planning rule to be adopted by all national forests
Grounded in science and public opinion the new rule will seek to deliver stronger protections for forests, water, and wildlife while supporting the economic viability of our rural communities.
The Chugach National Forest was chosen to lead the change in part for their ability to collaborate with the public and other agencies as well as Alaskan native tribes and corporations.
In areas like the Kenai and Russian Rivers they are already working closely with the Fish and Wildlife Service and Alaska Fish and Game; relationships that should be strengthened with the new rule.
The new planning rule will eventually be implemented for all 155 U.S.. forests and 20 grasslands under federal control.
