JUNEAU - There's a special celebration planned in Juneau Thursday as the city's newspaper celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The Juneau Empire was founded in 1912 as the Alaska Daily Empire. Publisher Mark Bryan says the Empire will host an open house Thursday afternoon, inviting the public to visit their hometown newspaper. Gov. Sean Parnell is scheduled to talk about the importance of the press and democracy at a 4:25 p.m. speech. Morris Communications Inc. in Augusta, Ga., owns the Empire. Company chairman and CEO William "Billy" Morris III will speak via telephone at the event. |
