Juneau's Filipino community is cancelling its traditional Thanksgiving Day meal to instead hold a benefit for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

JUNEAU- Juneau's Filipino community is cancelling its traditional Thanksgiving Day meal to instead hold a benefit for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Filipino Community Inc. President Dante Reyes reports the group met Saturday and decided to send the roughly $3,000 budgeted for the Thanksgiving dinner to the relief effort instead.
Parts of Philippines were devastated Friday and thousands of people killed by Typhoon Haiyan.
The group plans to hold a benefit dinner Nov. 23, with proceeds to be donated to relief efforts.
The cost for the dinner will be $5 for children 12 and under, $15 for adults and $25 for couples.
