JUNEAU- A life-size whale sculpture proposed for Juneau has received a major funding boost.

The board of the Rasmuson Foundation on Tuesday voted to award a quarter of a million dollars for the bronze humpback whale.

That leaves about $500,000 to be raised for the $2.2 million sculpture planned for Bridge Park near the bridge connecting Juneau to Douglas Island.

The sculpture will rise more than 25 feet from an infinity pool.

Skip Wallen of Juneau is the artist.

A clay mold for the sculpture is being made for casting of the sculpture in the Lower 48.
