JUNEAU- The Goldbelt Hotel in downtown Juneau is getting a new look.

The waterfront hotel, owned by Alaska Native corporation Goldbelt Inc., is undergoing a $2-million renovation, which will include changes inside and out.

Goldbelt director of tourism marketing, Joann Flora, says the Goldbelt board felt it was time to make an investment in the hotel and hope the changes will "attract a higher level of clientele."

Each room now has new mattresses and other new furniture. The wireless internet has been updated. There is new carpeting and wall coverings throughout the hotel, which also now features several meeting rooms and a gym. The hotel also has new art, including historic photographs and pieces by local artists.

Additional work remains, including to the facade.
