Sponsors of a recall campaign against Republican State Representative Kyle Johansen say they have enough signatures to go through with the action.
The State Division of Elections says in order to go through with a recall application 10 percent of the 2010 November election voters would have to sign. The sponsors say they have nearly 600 signatures of the needed 540
Ketchikan Republicans say the recall action stemmed from the house majority's meeting in which Johansen walked out over an organizational dispute last November.
Division of Elections is in the process of verifying signatures and the State Division of Law is reviewing the recall statement.
"If those two requirements are met," said Shelly Growden withe AK Division of Elections. "Then a petition will be provided for the recall committee to go out and gather the 25% signatures that are needed to have an actually special election to recall an official."
Johansen says he is disappointed in the group's choice to continue the recall action, but respects their constitutional right to do so.
