KODIAK - Kodiak officials now have some extra cash to help furnish the new library.

The Kodiak Public Library Association presented a $500,000 check on Thursday.

The money will be used to pay for furniture, equipment and fixtures in the $12.5 million library now under construction.

A bulk of the money, $150,000, came from an anonymous donor. The overall goal remains at $750,000, and organizers report they are just short of that.

The half-million dollar check was presented Thursday, which also marked the departure of librarian Joe D'Elia. He's headed to Florida to be closer to family.
