The trial has started for a former Sitka middle school principal charged with sexual assault.

Reports say Joseph Robidou is charged with five counts of sexual assault, four counts of indecent exposure and one count of assault. Officials say charges relate to three female employees of Blatchley Middle School.

Assistant District Attorney Jean Seaton in opening statements said Robidou on Jan. 16, 2013, appeared at one victim's home and put his hands around her neck. Seaton alleges Robidou said, "This would be easier if you were passed out."

Defense attorney Julie Willoughby says Robidou and the teachers were part of a drinking club. She suggested the allegations might be a form of revenge by one of the women.
