Slain Hoonah Police Officers Remembered
Residents in a southeast Alaska village held a candlelight ceremony to remember two police officers who died after being ambushed by a gunman.
The ceremony for slain Hoonah officers Tony Wallace and Matt Tokuoka was held near the suspect's home, where the two were gunned down late Saturday. John Marvin Jr. is charged with two counts of first degree murder. He was arrested Monday after a standoff with authorities. Bob Prunella, acting Hoonah administrator, says several dozen people attended the Monday night ceremony. A memorial of photos, flowers and candles remains at the site. According to court records, Marvin attacked the same two officers while they were responding to a call about an intruder last year, but assault and other charges were later dropped. |
