Work starts on deteriorating Petersburg bridge
PETERSBURG - Work has started to replace aging wooden decking on a bridge in Petersburg. Reports say the city's public works department will replace rotten planks on the Rasmus Enge bridge spanning Hammer Slough.
The state Department of Transportation recently lowered the rating and the maximum weight limit of the bridge because of the deteriorated condition.
Work started Monday and the $200,000 project is expected to take about eight weeks. The bridge will be closed during the project.
The city's other bridge over Hammer Slough could also have some closures this year. The state is planning some rehabilitation work on the Louis Miller bridge.
The city intends to have the other bridge work completed before work starts on the Miller bridge.
