Anchorage resident Thomas Patrick Rush, 31, died Sept. 3, 2007, at Providence Alaska Medical Center after a sudden cardiac arrest.
Tom was born May 3, 1976, in Hayward, Calif., where he was raised by his parents, Joe and Ruth. During his high school years, he moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he graduated from high
school. Tom worked in several trades before settling on steel fabrication, working at Alaska Steel in Anchorage.
He was married in Tuebingen, Germany, to his loving wife, Melanie, in 2003. He relocated to Alaska in 2004 and felt that he had found the perfect home for his outdoor lifestyle. He and his wife celebrated the birth of their daughter, Ella, in June 2005.
His family wrote: "Tom will be remembered by all as a man who put family and friends above other concerns in his life. He was as quick with his sharp wit as he was to give someone a hand when they were in need. He was a capable fisherman who somehow never made you feel inadequate as he out-fished you yet again. His passing brought out so many well-wishers that the scope of his impact on our community seems immeasurable."
Tom is survived by his wife and daughter; his parents; his sister, Sarah, and her family; and his grandfather, Gale.
A casual memorial service will take place Wednesday at his home.
