Anchorage Weather

High school students from all over the state of Alaska compete within their own districts by preforming solos and/or ensembles for a distinguished music professionals in their area. Their performance/s are then assessed on a scale of 1-3. Those performances receiving a 1 or "superior" move on to the state wide festival. At the state level students have the opportunity to preform for the state's top musical experts, categorized by instruments and will be recognized with a "superior" rating, and/or comments from the adjudicator. The adjudicator will then select one performance from each category to be honored in the Command Performance at the end of the festival. For categories containing more than 25 performances, there may be more than one performance selected. If you are in the area, it is highly encouraged to attend this prestigious event. It truly is one of the best examples our students get the chance to express how music has changed their lives through their performance of music!
The adjudicating will take place at the University of Alaska Anchorage Fine Arts Building located at 3700 Alumni Dr., Anchorage, AK 99508. (May 10-12, 2012)
There will be seating available but space will be limited. The festival begins Thursday night from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Friday from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
The Command Performance will be held at East Anchorage High School Auditorium located at 4025 East Northern Light Boulevard, Anchorage, AK 99508. (May 12, 2012)
The concert will begin at 5:30 PM. Tickets are sold both at the door and at the information table during the festival. Adult tickets are $10 and students (7-12) are $5.
