KODIAK, Alaska (AP) - Commercial fishermen can get tips on
rescuing crew members who fall overboard in a free DVD put out by
the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Institute spokesman Ted Teske tells the Kodiak Daily Mirror that
the DVD contains demonstrations of "man overboard" drills,
recovery techniques and realistic rescue scenarios.
It includes interviews with commercial fishermen who have
survived a fall overboard.
The DVD also shows how the institute researches and evaluates
personal flotation devices.
The DVD was developed in cooperation with the Alaska Marine
Safety Education Association and Alaska Sea Grant. It's available
on the institute website at or by calling the NIOSH office at
907-268-1137.
