ANCHORAGE, AK - American Idol may give people a chance to test their singing skills, but a metal showcase will give bands a chance to showoff their live performance.

Artist and Repertoire (A&R) representatives from three record labels--known for hard rock and metal--will be in Anchorage this weekend to see what our bands have to offer.

"I think it's an exciting opportunity, especially for right now, when the scene is trying to become more professional, and make a name for ourselves here in Alaska. I think this could definitely help us all achieve that," said Mark Burcell, drummer for Glass Halo.

Six bands will be featured in an all ages show this Saturday at the Downstairs of Club Millenium, and seven bands will perform at Chilkoot Charlie's on Sunday night.

Bands are anxious to get a chance for a possible record deal, and local promoters say it's shows that Alaska has some real talent.

"It's hard for bands in Alaska, because we're so far removed from the rest of the industry. And I wanna be able to bring the industry to our bands," said Owner/Operator Sarah Pederson, of Anchorage-based promotions company, Family Tree Presents.
