Driver Eludes Police causing Five Car Collision

At 11:53 AM on September 9, a Community Action Policing Unit officer observed a silver Lincoln Navigator traveling Eastbound on 5th Avenue swerving and hitting a vehicle. The officer turned on his lights to initiate a traffic stop and called for backup. Rather than stopping, the driver of the Lincoln Navigator began to speed up swerving in and out of its lane.

The driver lost control and crossed the median at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic. The Lincoln Navigator, driven by 40-year-old Christopher L. Jordan, collided with a second vehicle in the westbound lane of 5th Avenue which caused a third vehicle to also collide into the second one. Jordan traveled into the intersection of 5th Avenue and Airport Heights Drive colliding into a fourth and fifth vehicle, then came to a stop in the southbound lanes of Airport Heights Drive. All vehicles sustained significant damage. Several victims were treated at the scene by medics with the Anchorage Fire Department and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Jordan refused to cooperate with officers’ instructions to get out of the vehicle. As officers attempted to assist the Jordan from the vehicle, and he became combative. Officers gave several taser warnings that Jordan continued to ignore while attempting to fight with officers. A taser was deployed, and Jordan was handcuffed and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Jordan was remanded at the Anchorage Jail for Reckless Driving, Eluding, 3rd degree Domestic Violence, 1st degree two counts of Assault, five counts of 3rd degree Assault and Resisting Arrest. This investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be forthcoming.
