Congratulations to recently promoted Lieutenant Sparrs with ANC police and fire. Over 17 years of service, Lieutenant Sparrs has served the department in many roles — including a field trainer, department investigator and a sergeant. We wish him well in his new role as lieutenant.

Congratulations to Mary Jean Silva, assistant director at the U.S. Coast Guard base Kodiak child development center. She’s been selected as a recipient of the coast guard civilian employee of the year award for 2021.

Today, we’re recognizing some folks who stepped up mile after the record snowfall in Anchorage. Substitute teacher Shane Noyes and parent volunteer Mark Schmidt plowed Homestead Elementary last week. The school’s snow blower had an untimely malfunction, so Mr. Noyes came to the rescue.

Congratulations to 1st class Robert Knight — a boatswain’s mate at Coast Guard station Ketchikan. He was meritoriously advanced for consistently performing at a level far exceeding his rank! Knight’s enthusiasm and technical competence have earned him the role of supervisor to both the training and operations departments.
