ANCHORAGE (Your Alaska Link) - Businesses and bars are hoping to get lucky and have some big crowds for St. Patrick's Day.
Downtown will host a pub crawl, with The Avenue Bar being the first on the list. And if you're a part of that pub crawl, you're in for a treat.
"We're giving out free pretzels for anyone that's involved in the crawl and then we're doing lots of giveaways, door prizes, and other things to be more festive," Cori Craig, a bartender at The Avenue Bar, said.
It's a busier than usual time for bars, especially for The Avenue Bar.
"There will not be a lot of standing room around here. I assume it'll be shoulder-to-shoulder and lots of fun shenanigans for the day," Craig said.
Plenty of bars are participating in the St. Patty's Day pub crawl, including Darwin's Theory. Much like The Avenue Bar, Darwin's Theory is expecting big crowds and is trying to make it as festive as possible.
"The girls are all dressed up. We decorate, we have drink specials. We're expecting to blow the top off the roof," Ann Woolsey, a bartender at Darwin's Theory, said.
Business was slow during the early stages of the pandemic, but now they're ready.
"It's off the charts. People are just in a fun-loving mood now. We made history. We made it through COVID. It was all very unknown to us. But now we know the known," Woolsey said.
Downtown will be busy on St. Patty's with the pub crawl and even a bagpipe band playing at different bars.
