Routine Traffic Stop Escalates to Police Assault

On September 12, around 3:15 a.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop for moving and equipment violations on West Poppy Lane in Soldotna.

Investigation revealed the operator, 31 year old Crystal Kirkpatrick of Soldotna was impaired by and in possession of controlled substances. She was arrested for driving under the influence and two counts of fifth degree misconduct involving controlled substances.

A search warrant was granted for a legal blood draw. Kirkpatrick indicated she would resist the blood draw and she did. During the blood draw she assaulted two troopers, created a loud disturbance at the hospital, and damaged personal and state property. She was also arrested for two counts of fourth degree assault on a police officer, two counts of fifth degree criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. While being remanded at the jail more controlled substances were found concealed on her person.

She was also arrested for first degree promoting contraband. She was remanded at wildwood pretrial. The involved troopers received minor injuries which required no medical treatment.
