School District Approves Policy On Trans Athletes

The Mat-Su Borough School District board approved a policy that would prohibit transgender girls from competing in girls’ sports. The board voted 6 to 1 in favor of the change. The ACLU of Alaska says bans like this area a violation of title IX, and that the board is putting itself in legal jeopardy. Alaska Public Radio reports that about 35 people testified about the policy during a meeting last week — with about 20 against the policy, and 15 in favor of it.
