Tragic Ending for Driver of SUV that Struck a Semi Truck on Dalton HWY

On September 18, around 11:27 a.m., the Alaska State Troopers received an SOS message from a satellite communications device about a motor vehicle collision with injuries at mile 5 of the Dalton Highway.

Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to the area, along with DOT and medical personnel from Alyeska Pipeline Pump Station 5. A preliminary investigation revealed that a Mazda SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a semi-truck head-on traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the SUV, 60-year-old Texas resident Xuegeng Wang was transported to a Fairbanks area hospital by an Alyeska Pipeline Services helicopter where he succumbed to his injuries.
