Tragic Structure Fire in Fairbanks

On Wednesday around 9:21 PM, the Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received a report of a residential structure fire in Tanana.

The homeowner and single occupant were unaccounted for at the time of the fire. Approximately one hour into the fire suppression efforts, human remains were discovered inside, and they are believed to be the homeowner.

Members of the Tanana Fire Department continued their suppression efforts and remained on scene throughout the night. The next day, Alaska State Troopers and a Deputy Fire Marshal from Fairbanks flew to the community of Tanana to conduct the investigation. It was determined that the homeowner had been seen by members of the community approximately 1.5 to 2 hours prior to the fire, and was the only individual known to reside there.

The fire area of origin was identified as the area surrounding the wooden stove. At this time no foul play is suspected.
